About Arlene Holtz

Arlene Holtz Color, movement, emotion, and energy is what inspires me and what emerges in my art. I paint landscapes, still lifes, and florals, but figures and portraiture are the most fascinating to me. Lately I have been exploring the use of non-traditional colors to create portraits that are alive and unique. I have also begun to experiment with and paint abstracts, and am loving the freedom in just playing with color, form, and emotions. Exploration and new ideas get my juices flowing and drive me creatively. My passion is to create visual works of art in my studio that come from the heart and from my connection to Spirit. It’s just who I am. When I look back in my life, I realize that I always have been an artist, though I have done other things to earn a living years ago.

I started my art career many years ago creating stained glass art and windows as a hobby, and then making it into a business selling supplies, teaching classes, and doing commission work both in the USA and New Zealand. From there I moved into painting with oils and then acrylics, and more recently soft pastels.

I have exhibited my art at the Mountain Artists Guild gallery in Prescott, Arizona and for the past several years at Art All Night held in Lawrenceville, PA, including being one of the onsite collaborative painters at the 2013 and 2014 events.

I am a member of the Penn Arts Association and the East Suburban Artists League in Pittsburgh, PA, and exhibit my paintings through these groups at various shows and events throughout the eastern Pittsburgh area.

In July 2014 I won a blue ribbon (Judges Award) for one of my paintings during the Penn Hills Arts and Music Festival, sponsored by the Penn Hills Arts Council.

Teaching and connecting with other artistic souls is a special joy to me, and I have taught stained glass in my own retail stained glass shop in Arizona as well as at the Community College of Allegheny County in Pittsburgh. More recently I was a Grumbacher-certified acrylic painting instructor at two different Michaels Arts and Crafts stores in the Pittsburgh area. I have created several online painting lessons for a workshop called Dancing With Your Dreams, and have definite plans to offer my own individual online painting classes in the very near future.
