Artist's Description

This original impressionistic watercolor painting is 9 x 12 inches and is signed and dated on the front of the painting by me, the artist. Painting is done on heavy (140 lb) archival watercolor paper.

This is a watercolor painting that I created without any thought when I started it of what I would paint other than using colors in a way that was pleasing to me at the time. It started out with just some splashes of color in the center of the page and I simply allowed Spirit (my muse?) to guide the brush. When it started looking like a closeup of a blue flower, I began accentuating that and it fully came to life then, though I needed to let it rest for a while before I completed it. It was so much fun to create this way, especially when it started to come together. I love the intensity of the blue color of the flower as contrasted to the fuschia / violet background color, which really makes it stand out.

About Arlene Holtz

Arlene Holtz

Color, movement, emotion, and energy is what inspires me and what emerges in my art. I paint landscapes, still lifes, and florals, but figures and portraiture are the most fascinating to me. Lately I have been exploring the use of non-traditional colors to create portraits that are alive and unique. I have also begun to experiment with and paint abstracts, and am loving the freedom in just playing with color, form, and emotions. Exploration and new ideas get my juices flowing and drive me creatively. My passion is to create visual works of art in my studio that come from the heart and from my connection to Spirit. It’s just who I am. When I look back in my life, I realize that I always have been an artist, though I have done other things...
