Artist's Description

This portrait painting was created as one of a series of 6 I did in which I decided to use non-traditional paint colors for the skin and hair. I painted all 6 at once, allowing each one to tell me what it wanted me to do on the next one in the series. I really love the bright colors that resulted and it made for an interesting study of faces and the wonderful emotions they are capable of transmitting. Each one is unique and yet it is obvious they are part of a series. This particular one is one of my favorites from the series.

About Arlene Holtz

Arlene Holtz

Color, movement, emotion, and energy is what inspires me and what emerges in my art. I paint landscapes, still lifes, and florals, but figures and portraiture are the most fascinating to me. Lately I have been exploring the use of non-traditional colors to create portraits that are alive and unique. I have also begun to experiment with and paint abstracts, and am loving the freedom in just playing with color, form, and emotions. Exploration and new ideas get my juices flowing and drive me creatively. My passion is to create visual works of art in my studio that come from the heart and from my connection to Spirit. It’s just who I am. When I look back in my life, I realize that I always have been an artist, though I have done other things...
